Kevin Costner’s hugely ambitious western movie series Horizon – An American Saga still needs more money to get the last two films shot.
We’re just over three weeks away from the release of Kevin Costner’s passionate project – or at least the first part of it – Horizon: An American Saga – Part 1. This is Costner’s return to the director’s chair for the first time since Open Range over 20 years ago, in a project that he’s conceived, co-written, and takes the lead role in.
Already pretty much complete is Horizon: An American Saga – Part 2. But Costner has envisaged this as a four part movie series, and once he’d completed some promotional work for the first movie, he was off to Utah to start filming the rest of the saga.
Still, these films aren’t cheap, and while Costner has put a fair amount of his own funds into them, he can’t cover the full cost, which by the looks of it is going to be around the $400m mark for the lot. We’ve not got official confirmation of that, it’s just that’s the kind of number that’s been waved around.
On his social media account, Costner has posted imagery of him being on the set of Horizon for Part 3 as you can see here…
However, a report that’s popped up over at World Of Reel suggests that the main bulk of filming for the final two films has stalled a little. That Costner has pushed things back to the autumn, as he looks to bridge the funding requirements for it. The outlet reports that as of now, no further footage will be filmed until there are more coins in the pot to pay for it all.
Horizon: An American Saga – Part 1 is scheduled for release on 28th June 2024, with Part 2 landing in the middle of August. No release date has thus far been announced for the final two parts, but we’ll keep you posted as we hear more.
