King Spawn finally has a script and creator Todd McFarlane has seen it! Good things really do happen to those who wait.

Spawn creator Todd McFarlane has been waiting ā€“ mostly patiently ā€“ for a script to emerge for a fresh movie reboot for his character. Proof that the adaptation of his popular comic book character is truly on track for a 2025 release appears to have arrived too, as producer Jason Blum (very publicly) promised.

And guess what? A script has now turned up.

Back in January, McFarlane ā€“ who was at one point keen to write and direct the project himself ā€“ made it clear in a widely-reported interview that he was expecting to see a script within days and heā€™d be holding Blum to that deadline. McFarlane said, “[Producer] Jason Blum is one of the better ones at getting things done. They tell me I get to read the script this month. The email is going out this week to remind them that they promised me that.”

Whether that happened, we know not. What we do know is that the pair have taken to social media to show a pic of themselves ā€“ months later ā€“ brandishing a script entitled King Spawn. Weā€™re guessing the public display of the script (and new title) means that the writing stage is now pretty much complete and the film will be moving on to production imminently.

Questions remain, of course. Will the film still come out in 2025. Is Jamie Foxx still attached. Why is Spawn a king?

Blum talked about the project a little last year, saying that it was quite ambitious:  “They’re not looking for a big extravaganza,ā€ he said. But, they’re also not looking for an $8 million horror movie budget… We’re taking a pretty big moonshot of what we think we can pull off in Hollywood. If we can pull it off, it will be a big deal, financially, and once you get into those conversations, they’re going to want to do it in a way that they can then get their money back.”

The writers on the project are Matt Mixon, Malcolm Spellman (Falcon And The Winter Soldier) and Scott Silver (Joker). With a finished script now in place and Blumā€™s honour on the line for a 2025 release, weā€™d expect to hear more in short order. Weā€™ll let you know when we do.
