Here’s some good news: Network, the British vintage television and film DVD and Blu-ray specialists, is back from the dead. More here.

It was back in 2023 that Network Distributing Ltd went under, a company that had dedicated itself to bringing vintage TV and film to physical media.

From game shows and TV favourites to otherwise forgotten films, it had an enviable line of DVD and Blu-ray releases, titles that other companies weren’t going anywhere near. Network’s demise was a keenly-felt loss.

Now, thankfully, we get the news of the resurrection of the Network name, and the re-opening of its webstore. A whole bunch of titles have just gone back up for sale too.

As per a blog post on the Network On Air website, it explains that the Network brand and assets have been acquired by new owners, and they’re not connected to those who ran the business previously.

Now, there’s a “small group of enthusiasts and collectors with a passion for our nation’s screen history – and for physical media too.”

Instantly, they’ve made as much of the old Network catalogue available as they can/ Some titles went out of print, and work is underway to bring those back to market.

Looking forward though, the new owners are planning to build Network back up again, by the sounds of it to undertake fresh restorations and bring new titles to physical media. “It’s going to take time to build the business back up and do the kind of high-quality restorations that fans have come to expect from Network”, they write.

Wishing them the very best of luck with that.

In the meantime, the Network shop is now back open, with a mix of new and ‘pre-loved’ DVDs and Blu-rays going up for sale, and just in time for Christmas.

More news on what Network gets up to going forward as and when we hear it.

With thanks to Mark Pledger.
