With Keeper out soon, Osgood Perkins is busy on another horror movie, The Young People, which will star Nicole Kidman.

Update: Days before the release of his new film, writer-director Osgood Perkins has added a major star to his next horror project. Called The Young People, it’ll now include Nicole Kidman among its cast, which already includes Perkins regular Tatiana Maslany, as well as Lola Tung, Nico Parker, Cush Jumbo and more besides.

It’s unknown what role Kidman will play, or whether it’ll be a major part or more of a supporting role. Variety originally reported on the casting announcement.

Little is known about The Young People's story, though Osgood himself has previously teased a “bad trip” that mentions robed figures called The Old Ones. World Of Reel also has the following synopsis:

The Young People follows Sue, who befriends a new classmate named Kitty. At first, everything seems perfect, but soon Kitty begins to behave strangely, and troubling red flags emerge.

Osgood Perkins’ next film, Keeper, is out on the 14th November. More on The Young People, and its red flags, as we get it.

Our original story follows…

29th August 2025: It’s been a busy couple of years for writer-director Osgood Perkins. Last year, he released Longlegs, which many consider a modern masterpiece of horror. Then he terrified (and amused) us with The Monkey earlier this year. The filmmaker will also release another new film in November: Keeper

But it looks like Perkins has no plans to slow down. As picked up by The Hollywood Reporter, Perkins is already planning his next movie, titled The Young People. Lola Tung and Nico Parker are set to star, but plot details are being kept under wraps for now.

Neon took to social media to tease the project with an image of the script and a caption that promises audiences a “bad trip”. The pages are carefully arranged not to give too much away, but there is a mention of “The Old Ones” and their robes. It may be a bit too early to speculate who The Old Ones might be, but it’s intriguing. Vampires, perhaps? Some kind of cult? A glancing HP Lovecraft reference?

As with his previous films, Perkins has also written the script for The Young People and will be co-produce it with Chris Ferguson and Brian Kavanaugh-Jones.

Neon, which also released The Monkey and Longlegs in the US, is co-financing The Young People. They will also distribute and handle all international paperwork when it comes to showing the film outside of the US. Neon has a first-look deal with Perkins, which allows the filmmaker to develop his own projects under its name. The Young People will be the first film produced under that deal, but considering Perkins and Neon’s track record, we have a good feeling about this.

With Longlegs being one of the most critically acclaimed horror films of the last few years and The Monkey hitting a lot of the right marks too, there’s much to be excited about.

There’s no word on when The Young Ones might head into production or appear on the big screen, but we’ll keep you posted on that.

Meanwhile, you can catch Perkins’ next film, Keeper, in UK cinemas on the 14th November.
