A new reboot of The Blair Witch Project will be haunting cinemas in 2027. More on that story below.
Another day, another Hollywood reboot. A new The Blair Witch Project movie has been in the works for a while now, but Lionsgate has now announced that this reboot will be hitting cinemas on 24th September 2027.
The studio released a cryptic social media video to announce the date. Take a look at that below.
Dylan Clark will be directing this one. Clark is another filmmaker who got their start on Youtube after their short Portrait Of God went viral. Jordan Peele and Sam Raimi are currently signed on to produce a full feature of the short. Youtube seems to really be the platform where horror filmmakers particularly get their start as we’ve seen with Kane Parsons, Curry Barker and the Philippou Brothers.
Unsurprisingly, plot details are being kept firmly under wraps, but Bloody Disgusting has shared the press release’s words on the film: The horror masterminds at Blumhouse Atomic Monster (Obsession, The Conjuring, Backrooms) remind us how scary the woods can be with this groundbreaking new chapter of The Blair Witch Project.
“Groundbreaking new chapter”, eh? The original film remains one of the most pioneering horror movies of its generation, so we’ll see how the reboot fares up against it.
After the reboot was announced, it surfaced that the original stars of the 1999 film weren’t even informed of the new film. They’ve also been battling to get residuals from the film as the trio didn’t have the means to negotiate them at the time they signed on to the project.
