Horizon: An American Saga ā Chapter 3 and 4 will now shoot next year, as Kevin Costner slightly alters his plans for his western saga.
With Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 available now on video on demand service, and Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2 now debuting at the Venice Film Festival imminently, Kevin Costner is half-way through one of his dream projects.
The idea is for Horizon to be a series of four films, but there had been suggestions that the limited box office performance of Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 was making it harder for Kevin Costner to raise funds to complete the movies. He’s already shot a small portion of Chapter 3, yet given that he’s self-funding a good chunk of the budgets, financial assistance was and is required to get the rest made.
As per a new report at NBC, Kevin Costner has readjusted his original plan to get Chapter 3 in front of the cameras this winter. Now, he’s talking about shooting the final two films in the same way he did the first two: back to back. That’d shift the start of production on them to next year.
“I’ve already shot a little bit of the third”, he told NBC, as he confirmed he was now considering shooting the remaining films next spring. “I love the journey of this thing. It’s been the hardest thing I’ve ever done”.
He describes the third film as “even harder than the first two” and the fourth movie as the one that “completes the story”.
While Kevin Costner continues to fundraise to get those movies made, there’s the small matter of Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2 and its release date. It had originally been scheduled for this very month before the box office of Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 led to a change in plan. A winter release is now looking more likely, but Warner Bros hasn’t as of yet announced any kind of date for that.
As we hear more, we’ll let you know of course. Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 is available on premium video on demand in the UK, here.
