Writer/director Damien Leone confirms that he’s going to make Terrifier 4, ahead of the release of Terrifier 3 in cinemas.

This weekend, the independent horror franchise Terrifier goes as close to the mainstream as it’s ever got, with the release of Terrifier 3. More then three times as expensive as the first two films put together, and still made for a modest $3m, there are already predictions of a $20m cinema gross in the US alone. Terrifier 3 is heading into multiplexes around the world, and lots of them.

The franchise is the brainchild of Damien Leone, a writer and director who worked his way up from short films to get the original 2016 feature made. 2022’s Terrifier 2 then broke into the US box office top ten – a remarkable feat for a micro-budget film – and made Terrifier 3 an inevitability. Signature is releasing the movie in the UK, and is giving it a wide release as well.

Even as the tills are a-chinging this weekend though, Damien Leone has already confirmed that the Terrifier saga is far from done. In a surprise to pretty much nobody, he recently confirmed at a Q&A screening for his new film that “yes, there will be a Terrifier 4”. Inevitably, any kind of plot details are under wraps at the moment, and quite how it ties to Terrifier 3 is thus a mystery. Still, following the pattern of the films so far, expect Terrifier 4 to have more resources at its disposable, and once again to be made entirely outside of the Hollywood system.

There was a six year gap between the first film and the second, and just two years between the second and the third. The influx of revenue from Terrifier 2 greased the wheels for Terrifier 3, and with that in mind, a 2026 release for Terrifier 4 looks on the likely side.

More as we hear it. Terrifier 3 is playing in UK cinemas this weekend.
