Hugh Jackman was offered a role in the Cats movie – but circumstances meant he couldn’t take the offer up.
Before he hit big with the movies, Hugh Jackman had built up quite the career as a musical theatre star, and his love of musicals is never too far away. Most notably in recent times of course, The Greatest Showman, a real passion project for Jackman that turned into a huge surprise hit.
Perhaps it’s no surprise then that he was on the wish list for the recent Cats movie, directed by Tom Hooper. And Jackman, in a new interview with The Daily Beast, has confirmed that he was indeed approached about being in the film, but had to turn the job down.
“There were a couple of options there based on availability and time”, he said. “But I just wasn’t available at the time”.
He’s not having any shrift with those aiming bricks at the film, though. “I’m in the theatre man, and I don’t want to be in the business of bashing people or jumping on bandwagons”, he said. “I haven’t seen it, and Tom Hooper’s one of the great filmmakers we have”.
Cats, then, arrives on disc in the UK this June. You can find out more about it here.
