Filming is already underway for upcoming thriller The Critic, which boasts a strong cast and an equally intriguing premise.
Ian McKellen will lead the cast for The Critic, a period thriller coming our way courtesy of BK Studios. McKellen is joined in the ensemble by Gemma Arterton, Mark Strong, Lesley Manville, Romola Garai, Ben Barnes and Alfred Enoch.
We certainly like both the premise and the casting here: the story is set ‘in 1934 London with McKellen as Jimmy Erskine – the most feared drama critic in town’, a role perfect for McKellan’s utterly endearing brand of grumpiness. Meanwhile, ‘Arterton plays Nina Land, an actress who is determined to win his favour. When Jimmy finds himself in the crosshairs of his newspaper’s new owner, David Brooke (Strong), Nina is entangled in a dangerous web of blackmail, deceit and murder.’
Hilary And Jackie's Anand Tucker is directing from a script by Notes On A Scandal's Patrick Marber. With quality both in front and behind the camera, we’re keen to see how The Critic fares. Shooting is underway in London right now and we’ll keep you posted as we hear more.
