Finn Wolfhard and Billy Bryk are writing a remake of 90s cult horror comedy Idle Hands with Jason Reitman producing.

Another day, another remake is heading our way. Variety reports that Finn Wolfhard and Billy Bryk are writing a remake of Idle Hands, the 1999 horror comedy, with Jason Reitman producing the pic.

According to Variety, Sony is also keen on Bryk and Wolfhard to direct the film due to their success with another horror comedy, Hell Of A Summer, which the pair wrote, produced and directed together. Hell Of A Summer debuted at Toronto International Film Festival in 2023 to strong reviews and Neon acquired the film for a 2025 release.

Idle Hands starred Devon Sawa, Jessica Alba, Seth Green, Elden Henson and Vivica A. Fox at the start of their careers. The film received abysmal reviews upon release and bombed at the box office, but has since garnered a cult following.

Sawa took to X/Twitter to wish Bryk and Wolfhard good luck with the remake, giving his blessing to the project. The actor also shared his 10-year-old son telling his dad about the remake and the Stranger Things star writing it, only to find the kid thoroughly unimpressed by his dad’s involvement in the original film. Kids these days, eh?

Reitman previously worked with Wolfhard and Bryk on the two latest Ghostbusters films as well as the upcoming Saturday Night. It’s still early days for Idle Hands but we’ll let you know when there’s more to share.
