The cast of cult series Gilmore Girls reckon their story is far from over and fans could still get a Gilmore Girls movie. More on that below.
It’s October, which means its officially autumn, despite the rather high temperatures in the UK for this time of year. Regardless, it’s the time for big hoodies and jumpers, pumpkin spice lattes and, most importantly, binging Gilmore Girls.
Netflix’s 2016 follow-up series Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life ended on a massive cliffhanger – don’t worry, we won’t reveal it here – and ever since then, fans have been wishing for another series or perhaps a movie to tie things up. And, it turns out, there could still be hope.
The series, which originally began in 2000 and ran for seven seasons, before being followed by four feature-length episodes, has a loyal following. The story of a mother and daughter living in the idyllic town of Star Hollow, it’s annual watching for many fans (including yours truly) and there’s certainly an appetite for more.
Gilmore Girls, created by Amy Sherman-Palladino, turned 25 in early October, and Sherman-Palladino was joined by some of the principal cast to chat all things Gilmore Girls, including a potential film, for The Hollywood Reporter.
“We didn’t get to say goodbye. So there was no real ending and this was a way to do it right, if in fact it was going to be the last one, which I don’t think it will be,” Scott Patterson, who played diner owner Luke, teased.

Lauren Graham, Lorelai Gilmore herself, is also up for returning. “I’ve always said a Christmas movie seems like a way to revisit the characters. That wouldn’t have to be a full series and I think would make sense for dressing up the town and having a holiday-themed gathering.”
Kelly Bishop, who played Lorelai’s mother Emily, would also return – but only if the principal cast and Sherman-Palladino did as well.
“I’m also wondering if it would be better as a movie, rather than trying to do four more episodes or something like that,” she wondered.
Sherman-Palladino, who has spoken of her desire to potentially do a Gilmore Girls movie before, stayed suspiciously quiet during this part of the conversation, but did give more insight on the cliffhanger at the end.
“The cliffhanger was intentional because the story was about history repeating itself and about mothers and daughters,” she offered. She also revealed that she knows the answer to that cliffhanger.
It’s not exactly confirmation of more Gilmore Girls in the future, but with given popular the show still is, and the cast’s enthusiasm for more, it’s hard to imagine Netflix isn’t at least secretly thinking about it.
