The thriller The Woods will see JK Simmons being suitably scary, just the way we like him: more details here.
Weāll watch JK Simmons whatever heās in, letās be clear about that from the outset. Whether heās doing exasperated spook (
Burn After Reading), bemused father (
Juno), sinister, murderous father
(Invincible) or anything else on the acting spectrum, weāre in.
With that said, Simmons is always supremely watchable when heās being menacing. Whether heās playing J Jonah Jameson, frothing at the mouth in the
Spider-Man films, or bullying young musicians in
Whiplash, Simmons does barely-contained rage as well as anybody in the business.
Now the actor gets a chance to take that rage to the next level, with the announcement that he will play a maniac on the loose in the upcoming thriller,
The Woods. Written and directed by Michelle Schumacher (and co-scripted by Carolyn Carpenter),
The Woods follows a āteenage girl suffering from anxiety due to a tragic event from her past who finds herself hunted through the woods by a sociopath on a murderous rampage.ā
Simmons states that :āI didnāt want to play any truly scary bad guys when our kids were young, partly because of how it might affect them if they saw the film and also because I didnāt want to bring that energy home with me after an intense day on the set.ā
Now the kids are all grown up, we wonder if weāll see Simmons take on more dark roles of this nature. We certainly wonāt be complaining. Weāll bring you more on this one as we hear it.
