Jackie Chan is in early talks to reprise his role as Mr Han in The Karate Kid 2: more details here.

The Karate Kid franchise is as popular as ever. With four films in the original series and the 2010 reboot, the real surprise was the emergence of Cobra Kai. Originally made for the short lived YouTube Red in 2016, the series moved to Netflix and became a worldwide phenomenon, breaking viewing records with its heady mixture of nostalgic nods to the films, bringing back almost every legacy cast member as well as establishing a new cast of kids.

While Cobra Kai is currently in flux, standing in solidarity with the ongoing Writer’s Guild strike, it seems The Karate Kid won’t stay dormant for long.

A sequel to the 2010 film has been in development hell for well over a decade, with Jackie Chan’s packed schedule and the lack of a workable screenplay the main obstacles. However, it seems that things are finally moving forward, as Jackie Chan is in early talks to reprise his role as Mr Han. There is no word on whether Jaden Smith might be back

John Entwistle is attached to direct the film. Confusingly, the film is said to have nothing to do with Cobra Kai, yet it will somehow connect the 1986 original with the universe of the reboot, with Ralph Macchio’s name mentioned. Quite how they can square this with Cobra Kai remains to be seen.
