Martial arts superstar Donnie Yen has announced three new projects, two of which are sequels to two of his most popular films.

John Wick 4 is the action film of the year, and a huge part of that success is the casting of Donnie Yen as blind assassin Caine. Yen’s career stretches right back to the late 1980s and his early work with pioneering director and martial arts choreographer Yuen Woo Ping in pictures like Tiger Cage, In The Line Of Duty 4 and wuxia classic Iron Monkey. But it is as Bruce Lee’s martial arts teacher Ip Man that Yen achieved worldwide fame and notoriety, the balletic yet brutal beauty of Wing Chun choreographed and performed to perfection in four films to date.

Although Ip Man 4 was billed as the final chapter, Yen revealed at the Cannes Film Festival that a fifth instalment will be going into production shortly, and he will once again reprise the title role.

From a martial arts perspective, 2007’s Flash Point is Yen’s masterpiece. Acting as fight choreographer as well as starring, the final brawl between him and Collin Chou is an dazzling display of dexterity, as Yen utilizes a much more brutal, mixed martial arts style.

Yen revealed that Flash Point is also getting a sequel, to be called Flash Point: Resurgence. Again, no director or other cast members were confirmed aside from Yen.

The third film is completely new, and the only thing revealed was the title: Misjudgement.
