An announcement as to the new James Bond is expected imminently, and three names remains in the running. Even if we only know two of them.

Once director Denis Villeneuve has successfully launched Dune III into the world, he’s directly turning his attention to the already long-awaited next chapter in the James Bond.

With filming due to begin on the next 007 adventure in early 2027, we’re getting down to the point where Amazon MGM Studios has to show its hand. And, bluntly, has to tell us who Daniel Craig’s successor is.

The latest rumour doing the rounds suggests that we’re down to three possible candidates for Bond, although only two names are being mentioned.

Of those, Jack Lowden seems to be the frontrunner to my eyes. He’s probably a little older than Amazon would want, but he’s British, he’s got proven spy pedigree in Slow Horses, and seems to have been linked with the part for eons. Chortle.

As has Jacob Elordi to be fair, the younger early frontrunner for James Bond. Counting against him is he isn’t British, but in his favour is the idea that he could comfortably play Bond for four or five films over the course of the next decade or so, and not come across like Roger Moore in A View To A Kill.

The third name in the mix is a mystery, a reported unknown. Whoever that is probably fits the bill more, someone new to the public eye. I am happy to confirm that it’s not me.

In terms of timing, the announcement is still expected this year, possibly in the matter of a week or two. Villeneuve is certainly going to get asked a zillion questions on the Dune Part III press tour, and Amazon MGM will presumably want to get out in front of that. And also, to have their Bond in place ready for a January or February start.

We’ve already been told by screenwriter Steven Knight that he’s been cast. It’s just waiting, it seems, to find out who it is.
