A new James Bond will be announced, it’s been pretty much confirmed, in 2026, paving the way for James Bond 26 to shoot next year.

Things are very much moving, at last, in the world of James Bond 007. Not since 2019 has a Bond movie been before the cameras, as Daniel Craig shot his swansong in the role, No Time To Die.

Now, with Amazon MGM calling the shots and James Bond 26 director Denis Villenueve nearly done with his final Dune film, key decisions are being made. Not least: who is the next James Bond?

Amy Pascal is producing the new James Bond film along with David Heyman, the pair of whom are stepping into the shoes of Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson.

Pascal, one of the producers of the gigantically successful Spider-Man: Brand New Day, had been chatting to Deadline, and the Bond question has inevitably arisen. This time, she has news, which has taken me a good four paragraphs to get to.

“I would say the end of the year is a good bet,” she said, when asked when the announcement of the new James Bond would be made.

“We are being really, really methodical. Having worked with Barbara Broccoli at the studio, I mean, Daniel Craig is a hard act to follow. And it’s got to be something really different that is stirring and exciting and different.”

The rumour mill has been awash with talk about casting being underway over the summer. Lots of names thrown in the mix, but the suspicion remains that Amazon MGM wants somebody relatively lower profile, and ideally in their 20s so that they can inhabit the role for a comfortable run of movies.

Steven Knight is penning the new film, for Villeneuve to direct, and it’s due before the cameras in 2027. Don’t be surprised if Amazon lavishes more expense on it, when it comes to the budget, than any James Bond adventure thus far. More, as always, as we hear it.
