The chances of Jared Leto reprising the role of The Joker on the big screen now seem very slim indeed.
I think it’s getting to the point where it’s safe to say we’ve seen the last of Jared Leto’s take on the infamous Joker character. The actor was reportedly unhappy with the standalone Joker film, that’s seen Joaquin Phoenix take on the character and win a Golden Globe for his trouble. But now we learn that the incoming Birds Of Prey movie – which sees the return of Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn – won’t be featuring him either.
The confirmation came from Robbie herself in a chat with Variety, where she revealed that Leto doesn’t appear. The catalyst for the film’s story is her breaking free from the Joker, so it’s a bit of a surprise that he’s absent from the story. But then Leto’s divisive performance and approach to the role may have been a contributory factor there. To be clear, the last sentence is my speculation, not Robbie’s words.
The film itself lands in February, and expect the promotional campaign to ramp up still further in the months ahead.
