Jennifer Garner is reprising her role as Elektra in the upcoming Deadpool 3, it’s been confirmed.
It would be fair to say that in the pantheon of 2000s superhero pictures, 2005’s Elektra is not generally considered to be in the top tier. Spun off from her appearence opposite Ben Affleck in 2003’s Daredevil, the film was a critical and commercial failure, although is notable for being one of the few superhero films of the time with a female lead.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jennifer Garner will reprise the role in Deadpool 3, opposite Ryan Reynolds.
While nothing is yet known about the plot, we do know that Hugh Jackman is also reprising his role as Wolverine, which has led many people to speculate whether Deadpool 3 will lean into the multiverse storytelling of modern Marvel films.
Other cast members include Emma Corrin in a leading villain role and Matthew Macfadyen in an as yet undisclosed role. Reprising roles from previous films are Monica Baccarin, Stefan Kapici, Leslie Uggams, Karan Soni, Brianna Hildebrand, Shioli Kutsuna and Rob Delaney.
Shawn Levy, with whom Reynolds and Garner worked on The Adam Project, is directing from a screenplay he co-wrote with Reynolds, regular Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, and Zeb Wells.
Deadpool 3 is due to be released on the 3rd May 2024.
