One of the two upcoming Halloween games will be developed by pixel platformer specialists WayForward. The studioā€™s also working on an Ash Vs Evil Dead title.

It was announced on the 12th August that Boss Team Games is busy making two new videogames based on John Carpenterā€™s Halloween slasher franchise. Weā€™ve since learned that one of those will be a 16-bit style platformer developed by WayForward.

As first reported by Eurogamer, WayForward is also working on a similarly early 90s-themed action game based on Ash Vs Evil Dead. Both games are part of Boss Teamā€™s RetroRealms series, which implies we might be in for more sprite-filled titles based on classic film properties in the near future.

If you havenā€™t heard the name before, WayForward is a small, California-based studio that has been putting out some wonderful 2D games over the past 34 years or so. Itā€™s perhaps best known for its Shantae series of pirate-themed platformers, but some of its other output includes Contra 4, A Boy And His Blob and River City Girls. Nor is the studio a stranger to making great games based on film franchises; in its back catalogue youā€™ll also find Aliens: Infestation, Hotel Transylvania and The Mummy: Demastered ā€“ the latter being infinitely more entertaining than the Tom Cruise action on which it was based.

Both RetroRealms: Halloween and RetroRealms: Ash Vs Evil Dead are set to launch on the same day ā€“ the 18th November to be precise ā€“ and Boss Team says that thereā€™s a bonus for those who purchase both: Michael Myers will be able to teleport to Ash Vs Evil Deadā€™s world, while Ash Williams will be able to make the reverse journey and explore Haddonfield, Illinois.

The other Halloween game in development hasnā€™t been unveiled yet, but it was said the other day that John Carpenter will be ā€œintimatelyā€ involved in its development, and that itā€™ll allow players to “relive moments from the film and play as classic characters from one of the most iconic and important horror films of all time.”

As for those RetroRealms titles, youā€™ll find an announcement trailer for them below these words. Their gore filled action will be available for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Switch.
