John Boyega has offered a brief insight into Attack The Block 2, as well as suggesting that he may be making the move to TV screens in the future.  It’s been well over a year now since it was announced that we’d be getting a sequel to the stellar 2011 sci-fi action flick,  Attack The Block. The film was directed and written by Joe Cornish and, despite not doing incredible numbers at the time of its release, has certainly found its audience in the years since, gaining cult status and sparking interest in a return to the blood-splattered world of Moses, Sam and a host of vicious and hungry aliens. Last we heard, Cornish is currently writing the sequel, although this time around star John Boyega is part of the scripting process too, whilst his production company UpperRoom is also involved. Boyega has offered a tantalising glimpse into the both the London setting and perhaps a key theme in the upcoming movie which seems like it will be following in the path of its predecessor and tackling a key social issue. Boyega explained that London has “changed between the first movie and now”, explaining that the London Riots that broke out the same year the original movie released, not to mention the widespread gentrification of London in the past decade. “We go back and look at the locations where we shot the first movie [Southwark and Walworth in south London] – once dodgy areas – and we find that it’s all gleaming, high-end apartments and Starbucks. There’s a whole world that we’re about to explore here with a whole new take on that universe, building and revisiting those characters.” The actor has also revealed that he might be heading to TV next, stating that his production company has “something potentially big brewing.” Apart from a brief sojourn into television in the excellent Red, White and Blue, one of the Small Axe films made for the BBC by Steve McQueen, Boyega has never made an appearance on the small screen in a leading role. He added that “the project has got a big commercial footprint – I mean that in the best way – and I’m circling it now”. Other than that, cards are being kept close to his chest. Lots to chew on there then. We’ll bring you more details on the highly anticipated sequel to Attack The Block as we hear them, along with whatever else Boyega may have in the pipeline.
