Starring Brad Pitt, Joseph Kosinski’s expensive-sounding Formula 1 movie is out in June 2025 – though it still doesn’t have a title…

The long-delayed and purportedly expensive Formula 1 movie, director Joseph Kosinski’s follow-up to Top Gun: Maverick, finally has a release date. It’ll be out in US cinemas – on IMAX screens – on the 27th June 2025. A UK release date will no doubt hover around a similar slot.

It’s a sign that the finish line is in sight for the complicated racing drama, which began filming at last year’s Silverstone British Grand Prix race but was forced to shut down as the Hollywood strikes began. As producer Jerry Bruckheimer told us last month, the delays meant that, while its mainline cast – which includes Brad Pitt, Damson Idris, Kerry Condon and Javier Bardem – were unable to work, Kosinski and his team were able to carry on filming racing sequences during the interim.

“We got delayed because of the strike, but we were fortunate because in the downtime during the strike, Joe [Kosinski] got to shoot all of his second unit,” Bruckheimer told us. “So during the strike, we were filming at every race, and kept moving. Now we’re back to shooting actors – putting actors in the cars and doing all that stuff.”

With all that footage in the can, this year will see Kosinski direct the human drama side of the film, with Pitt playing the mentor to Idris’ up and coming racing driver. “We’ve made two movies,” Bruckheimer said last month. “The first movie was all the second unit work, and now we’re making the dramatic story. But it’s gonna be terrific – a really interesting film… We were fortunate that Joe really got to direct the visual stuff, because normally you can’t afford that.”

Speaking of affording things, the budget on Kosinski’s film has reportedly breached the $300m mark. The sums are so high that, as we wrote in early May, Apple Studios had been looking around for an established Hollywood studio to help with distribution. That partner has now been found, as written up by The Hollywood Reporter – Warner Bros will give the film a release in cinemas and will secure plenty of IMAX screens to show it on.

All of which means that Kosinski’s next film is a shade over a year away; now all it needs is an official title. The rumour was that it’ll be called Apex, though this hasn’t been confirmed yet. We’ll let you know as we learn more.
