Madonna is set to direct her own biopic, and she’s picked Julia Garner to play her in Blonde Ambition.

Madonna has something of an eclectic filmography. From Desperately Seeking Susan to the pomp of Evita, nobody could accuse her of of resting on her laurels. She has directed two films to date, 2008’s Filth and Wisdom and 2011’s W.E. Now, in an unusual move, she is directing her own biopic.

Julia Garner will portray the pop icon, in a story that will follow her incredible rise to fame. Madonna said that she hoped to “convey the incredible journey that life has taken me on as an artist, a musician, a dancer — a human being, trying to make her way in this world. The focus of this film will always be music.  Music has kept me going and art has kept me alive”.

The script, currently titled Blonde Ambition, has been co-written by Juno scribe Diablo Cody and Secretary writer Erin Cressida Wilson, with Amy Pascal producing.

A release date has not yet been set.
