Parasite director Bong Joon-ho’s sci-fi cloning movie Mickey 17 is still a little while away, but here’s the new trailer to keep us occupied.
Given that Bong Joon-ho’s last film was the incredible Parasite all the way back in 2020, we’re finding ourselves becoming increasingly impatient for the release of Mickey 17. This is the sci-fi cloning movie featuring Robert Pattinson leading a stacked cast, and promising plenty of clone-related mishaps and mayhem.
Sure, the repeated delays to the film may have rang alarm bells for some. And sure, the rumours regarding Warner Bros arguing with Bong over the film’s final cut have also been something of a distraction. But ultimately, with films such as Snowpiercer and Parasite, Bong has repeatedly proven himself to be a master at sculpting crafty satires using smart and absorbing genre filmmaking. With Mickey 17, he’s hopefully managed to pull off that trick once more.
With the film’s April release still some way off, those multiple delays are really starting to tell as it feels like we’ve been waiting for this one forever. Still, we’re sure the film will be worth the wait and at least we have a new trailer to enjoy (and an extra opportunity to acclimatise ourself to Pattinson’s quirky dialect choice) ahead of the film’s release in April.
Toni Collette, Mark Ruffalo, Steven Yeun and Naomi Ackie co-star in the film, based on Edward Ashton’s novel Mickey7, which we recently learned has a sequel, just in case Warner Bros decide that they want more Mickey 17 in the years to come. We’ll leave you with the film’s synopsis and that new trailer below.
‘Mickey, a disposable employee sent to colonise an ice world. Under his contract with the company, anytime he dies his body is simply reprinted – albeit with his memories still preserved. A problem soon happens when, in his 17th incarnation, he comes home to find his 18th incarnation in bed – leading to all sorts of problems of having two versions of him at once.’
