Netflix has set the release date for Squid Game season 2 for late December and announced that season 3 will be its last.
Fans have been feverishly waiting for news on Squid Game season 2. Netflix has been very tight-lipped about its history-making Korean thriller, but we finally have an update on when we can return to the titular sadistic game.
Squid Game season 2 will stream on Netflix from 26th December. Netflix also announced that the series will return for season 3, which will stream in 2025. However, that will be the series’ last season.
Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun, Wi Ha-jun, and Gong Yoo will all reprise their roles from the first season, but will be joined by new recruits Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Gyu-young, Lee Jin-uk, Park Sung-hoon, Yang Dong-geun, Kang Ae-sim, Lee David, Choi Seung-hyun, Roh Jae-won, Jo Yu-ri, and Won Ji-an.
The series follows a man, who finds himself taking part in a cruel game where hundreds of people compete for a cash prize. Upon its release in 2021 the series became a massive hit for Netflix. Squid Game went on to make history as it became the first ever non-English language series to be nominated for Outstanding Drama Series. Similarly, Lee Jung-jae, last seen in The Acolyte, became the first Asian actor to win Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series.
The director, writer and executive producer of Squid Game, Hwang Dong-hyuk, provided a statement, in which he promises that the team will do their best “to make sure we bring you another thrill ride.” You can read the full letter below.

Here’s the synopsis for Squid Game season 2: Three years after winning Squid Game, Player 456 remains determined to find the people behind the game and put an end to their vicious sport. Using this fortune to fund his search, Gi-hun starts with the most obvious of places: look for the man in a sharp suit playing ddakji in the subway. But when his efforts finally yield results, the path toward taking down the organization proves to be deadlier than he imagined: to end the game, he needs to re-enter it.
