Kids can now participate in Junior Taskmaster, which debuts on Channel 4 in November. Here’s the trailer for the show.

When comedian Alex Horne roped in a few of his funny friends to take part in a one-off task based live show in 2010 at that year’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival, he couldn’t have forseen the behemoth it would become. From Joe Wilkinson’s heartbreaking encounter with a potato, Bob Mortimer’s special cuddle to a tense live round of Sausage or Finger, Taskmaster has become one of the most popular programmes on television.

Channel 4 is currently broadcasting series 18, which stars Andy Zaltzman, Babatunde Aléshé, Emma Sidi, Jack Dee and Rosie Jones.

It’s surprising that it has taken this long for a spin-off to emerge, but here we are.

Junior Taskmaster takes the silliness of the main show and lets a group of kids take on the Junior Taskmaster, played by series 9 contestant Rose Matafeo. She is ably assisted by series 11 contestant Mike Wozniak, who was responsible for one of the best ever prize tasks (I won’t spoil it but it’s series 11 episode 10 if you’d like to watch it).

According to the British Comedy Guide, the official description reads as follows:

An offspring of the award-winning Taskmaster featuring contestants aged 9 to 11. Rose Matafeo hands out the points with Mike Wozniak as the assistant.Taking on a fiendishly baffling series of tasks are 25 contestants, who show up ready and willing to give their all in the name of entertainment.

Matafeo passes judgement as they complete the typically idiosyncratic challenges in the Junior Taskmaster house, which is equipped with a shed, a caravan, a laboratory, alongside a dazzle of zebras, a sandcastle pedestal and revolving top hat spinning wheel. With tasks that are designed to encourage and inspire wile, wit, creativity, and athleticism, Wozniak is in his element enthusiastically overseeing each and every task.

The 25 young heroes compete across five heats and two semi-finals before the top five players head through to the to the grand final, where they will hope to become the Junior Taskmaster Champion and, continuing the Taskmaster tradition, have the honour of taking home a trophy of the Taskmaster’s magnificent golden head.

Junior Taskmaster will be broadcast on Channel 4 at 8pm on the 8th November.
