Event cinema has been flourishing over the last few years, what with the ever growing popularity of National Theatre Live, broadcasts from the Royal Opera House and the gargantuan success of Taylor Swift’s Eras concert film, which has been attracting people to multiplexes over the last few days. Stand-up comedy, though? There’s not been a lot of that in cinemas – but now, somebody’s going to give it a go. That somebody being Kevin Bridges, who’s going to be bringing his latest show – The Overdue Catch-Up – to cinemas across the UK. Though unusual, it isn’t without precedent – Billy Connolly, Monty Python and Daniel Sloss previously released comedy shows on the big screen. Furthermore, Bridges has said of the release that “following the announcements that Beyonce and Taylor Swift are releasing their live concerts in the cinemas I felt it was only natural I followed suit. I’m excited to bring my show to the big screen. I love a day/night at the Pictures so I’m delighted that people can come out to their local cinema and have a laugh at the new show”. A trailer for the release has also been issued, and it looks like this… Finally – and this is a bit odd for a stand-up show in a cinema – how about a synopsis too?
Following the success of his sold-out tour, award-winning comedian Kevin Bridges brings his critically acclaimed show, The Overdue Catch-up, to cinemas for the first time from 17 November 2023. The release features brand-new material and exclusive behind the scenes access to Kevin on tour.
