After premiering Horizon: An American Saga – Part 1, Kevin Costner confirms that he’s definitely going to be making the rest of the story.

Debuting at the Cannes Film Festival yesterday decades after he first conceived the project was Horizon: An American Saga – Part 1. Directed and co-written by Kevin Costner, with Costner also taking on the lead role, this has been a huge gamble for him, to the point where he’s had to put up a good chunk of the funding himself.

The big question then: would it be any good? Mixed reviews, granted, have come out of Cannes, but there’s a general feeling that Costner has managed to pull this off. A lengthy Cannes Film Festival standing ovation followed, and a clearly emotional Costner promised in his speech afterwards that “I’ll never forget this”.

He also affirmed that his plan is still to make four parts of the series, with Horizon: An American Saga – Part 2 already set for cinemas in August. Parts three and four are due to start filming once Costner has completed promotional duties for Part 1, even though it’s not entirely clearly clear whether he’s got his full funding in place.

I’m trying my best to sound impartial during the writing of this story, incidentally. Since the moment Horizon has been announced, it’s been my most anticipated set of films, and nothing I’ve read of the early responses has put me off. The UK release for the film is at the end of June.

Meanwhile, a fresh trailer for the movie was also released, and that looks very much like this…

For the moment, we’ll leave you with that. Hopefully, a lot lot more on Horizon: An American Saga – Part 1 shortly…
