Mark Harrison: an appreciation

Our quiz overlord has been writing Film Quiz Friday for five years – and today, as he pens his last, we want to say thank you.

This very day, one of the articles that you’ll find on this website is the weekly quiz that we’ve been running since way, way back in 2020.

Every single quiz has been the work of Mark Harrison, who studiously has compiled 30 or so movie questions a week, save for the odd week off. He’s written hundreds of these, and our social media feeds are awash on a Friday with people sharing their scores.

I’ve known since the start of the year that Mark was pulling up stumps on the weekly quiz, and for a very good reason: a very happy event this week, and I wish him and his family well. I’m not sure he’s going to be sleeping much in the months ahead, let’s put it that way!

This, then, is his (sort of) finale. The last weekly Film Stories quiz in its current form. The end of an era for us here, but also, the start of a new one.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll have news on what the new quiz project we’re working on is, and thankfully, we’ve lured Mark back to get involved with that.

But for now, from all of us at Film Stories, a huge thanks to Mark. He’s put in monumental amounts of work on these quizzes, and we look forward to working with him on the next generation of them.

Huge congratulations, too. And for those who miss the weekly quiz for the next few weeks, please be assured there are thousands of questions in the archive awaiting you!

Thanks, Mark. And hope you’re all getting a bit of sleep.

Simon, and the Film Stories team.
