Say hello to my little friend! And by little friend, we mean Anxiety. Watch the first trailer for Pixar’s Inside Out 2.
Pixar has released the first trailer for Inside Out 2, which you’ll be shocked to learn is a sequel to its 2015 film Inside Out. That film won many awards, but its real legacy was in how informative and insightful it was in helping children talk about feelings, especially the more negative ones.
No one really asked for a sequel to Inside Out, but we got one anyway and honestly, we’re here for it. Inside Out 2 is heading to cinemas next year and there’s now a trailer which you can watch below.
The trailer begins with the sweet notes of Michael Giacchino’s now-iconic score, before the lives of Joy, Sadness, Disgust, Fear and Anger are disrupted by a literal wrecking crew who demolish the old controls and install a new, orange control table. Say hello to Anxiety, a somewhat dishevelled looking little thing, voiced by Maya Hawke.
Anxiety is only one of the new emotions we’ll meet in Inside Out 2. We don’t officially know what other emotions might wreak havoc in the now 13-year-old Riley’s head, but CanWeGetSomeToast thinks Anxiety will be joined by Ennui, Embarrassment and Envy.
Amy Poehler, Phyllis Smith and Lewis Black return to voice their characters, Joy, Sadness and Anger respectively, but Tony Hale and Liza Lapira are taking over from Bill Hader and Mindy Kaling as Fear and Disgust. The Playlist reported in 2022 that this was due to a pay dispute. Amy Poehler was reportedly offered $5m for reprising her role as Joy, whereas the rest of the cast are only getting $100k. Disney reportedly improved on that offer, but Kaling and Hader walked away.
Inside Out 2 is directed by Kelsey Mann while Meg LeFauve has penned the script. Original Inside Out director and Pixar’s Chief Creative Officer Pete Docter is executive producing.
Inside Out 2 is set for 14 June, 2024 release here in the UK and we’ll keep you posted on more news and trailers regarding the Pixar sequel.
