Heat 2 is arriving in book form this summer, and it’ll be both a prequel and a sequel to the 1995 Michael Mann movie: more here. I was working at another website when news of this particular project first appeared, many many years ago. Writer and director Michael Mann might not be making many films at the moment, but he’s revisited one of his absolute best: 1995’s Heat. It’s been known for a long time that he was revisiting the story for a novel, and finally, this year, we’re going to be able to get our paws on it. Written with Meg Gardiner, it turns out that Heat 2 is going to be both a prequel and a sequel to the story of the film itself, the movie being headlined of course by Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, Val Kilmer and Ashley Judd. It’s billed, intriguingly, as the first ever Michael Mann novel, which at least vaguely hints that there might be more. There were also hints at one stage that Mann may look to bring the story of the novel to film, but presumably that might rest on how the book itself does. That said, it sounds like just the kind of project a streamer such as HBO Max would be looking for. The UK release date is August 18th, and the book is available for order now. We’ll leave you with the synopsis… Described by Michael Mann as both a prequel and sequel to the renowned, critically acclaimed film of the same name, HEAT 2 covers the formative years of homicide detective Vincent Hanna (Oscar winner Al Pacino) and elite criminals Neil McCauley (Oscar winner Robert De Niro), Chris Shiherlis (Val Kilmer), and Nate (Oscar winner Jon Voight), and features the same extraordinary ambition, scope, rich characterizations, and attention to detail as the epic film. This new story leads up to the events of the film and then moves beyond it, featuring new characters on both sides of the law, new high-line heists, and breathtakingly cinematic action sequences. Ranging from the streets of L.A. to the inner sancta of rival Taiwanese crime syndicates in Paraguay to a massive drug cartel money-laundering operation just over the border in Mexico, HEAT 2 illuminates the dangerous workings of international crime organizations and the agents who pursue them as it provides a full-blooded portrait of the men and women who inhabit both worlds.Thank you for visiting! If you’d like to support our attempts to make a non-clickbaity movie website: Follow Film Stories on Twitter here, and on Facebook here.
