Lather up in insect repellent and don’t forget the flamethrower – Scottish indie horror-comedy Midgies has a proof of concept trailer, and is looking for funding. More below:

Anyone planning a hiking holiday in the highlands might want to check out a new film trailer first. What started as a joke on social media has now developed into a full three-minute trailer, shot over two days around Glasgow and Loch Lomond, with the hope of gauging interest for a full film.

Well, consider our interest gauged: this looks great.

Check out the Midgies trailer below:

Envisioned by writer Barry Hutchison and director Alessio Avezzano (Isleanders), the finished film will follow a mother and daughter duo on a road trip through the Scottish highlands, which all goes a bit wrong when they encounter a swarm of mutant midges. Classic horror and comedy flicks like Jaws, The Host, Predator, and Shaun Of The Dead have been listed as inspirations.

“We were blown away by the talent and dedication from everyone involved,” Hutchison says of the trailer. “Now, we’re pushing to begin full production as early as next summer.”
