Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston are both returning for Murder Mystery 2, funded by the sizeable chequebook of Netflix.

On the dramatic side, the films that Adam Sandler has made as part of his hugely lucrative exclusive deal with Netflix have turned out really quite special. On the comedy side? Well, whilst the viewing figures may have been sky high, the films themselves have – and I’m trying to be kind – ‘been quite lacking’.

If there’s been one that’s popped its head up as something a little better though, I’d suggest it’s Murder Mystery. Appreciating it’s since been usurped tremendously by Rian Johnson’s Knives Out, I thought it was pretty decent, reuniting Sandler with Jennifer Aniston for an entertaining-enough whodunnit.

At a point where Netflix has now stumped up nine figures for two Knives Out sequels, the streaming giant will also be funding Murder Mystery 2 it’s now been revealed. This had been rumoured for a while, with James Vanderbilt back to write the script and Jeremy Garelick set to direct the film.

Shooting is set to take place soon it seems, with locations including Paris and the Caribbean. That should clear the way for Murder Mystery 2 to land at some point in 2022.
