Netflix are busy planning their slate of projects for the next few years, and we might just be getting some more Peaky Blinders. More here:

Netflix are reportedly working on a bunch of new spin-offs and prequels. Bloomberg’s newsletter describes the streamer as having entered their “franchise era” as they look to produce more and more prequels, spin-offs and sequels.

The streamer is looking to do an Extraction TV show as well as a Wednesday spin-off, which could very well focus on Uncle Fester. Both Wednesday and Extraction and its sequel have been huge hits for the streaming service, which has also expanded to the West End with a Stranger Things show now playing at the Phoenix Theatre.

What’s curious though is that Bloomberg reports that Netflix are also considering a couple of Peaky Blinders spin-offs. One that could be set in 20th century Boston and another focusing on Polly, the matriarch of the Shelby clan. We can only assume that means Boston, Massachusetts and not Boston, Lincolnshire, although that is a series we could get behind.

Fans will remember that Finn Cole’s Michael relocated to Boston (Massachusetts, that is, not Lincolnshire) in the show’s sixth season briefly before meeting his maker back in Birmingham at the hands of Tommy Shelby. Michael did have a son in Boston with Gina, so the new spin-off, which would take place a couple decades after the explosive series finale of Peaky Blinders, could easily follow Michael’s son’s life.

Helen McCrory portrayed Polly Gray in the show until her tragic, untimely death in 2021. A prequel of her beginnings might interest fans of the show, but there’s also the matter of the upcoming Peaky Blinders movie. It was originally scheduled to begin filming in 2023, but series creator Steven Knight has now said the series would go into production in mid-2024

None of this is confirmed or officially announced by Netflix so a lot can still change. The series was critically acclaimed throughout its six-season run, but prequels can be very hit and miss with audiences. We’ll just have to wait and see if anything materialises.
