Amazon is starting work on a new series and Nia DaCosta is set to direct episodes. Here’s more on Sex Criminals.
Another day, another TV show is in the works. This one has a slightly more uncomfortable – but one that makes sense – title: Sex Criminals.
Based on Matt Fraction and Chip Zdarsky’s comic books, Amazon Prime Video will produce a TV adaptation of them and Nia DaCosta has now signed on to direct the first two episodes of the series as Variety reports.
Sex Criminals was created by Kumail Nanjiani, Emily V. Gordon and Tze Chun who are also serving as showrunners. DaCosta will also executive produce the series.
In front of the camera, Imogen Poots has been cast to play the show’s main character, Suze. Suze is described as “a normal girl with an extraordinary ability: When she has sex, she stops time. One night, she meets Jon (John Reynolds), who has the same gift. And so they do what any other sex-having, time-stopping couple would do: They rob banks.”

This is the second Image Comics comic book TV adaptation that DaCosta is involved in. In 2025, it was announced the director would direct the first two episodes of the upcoming Southern Bastards, based on Jason Aaron and Jason Latour’s comics. Kevin Bacon will star.
This isn’t the first time DaCosta is moving on to the TV side of things. She has previously directed episodes of Top Boy and Marvel’s Ms. Marvel. Earlier this year, DaCosta took over cinemas with 28 Weeks Later: The Bone Temple.
