Filming is underway on Sympathy For The Devil, and Joel Kinnaman and Nicolas Cage are co-starring: more on the film here.
Nicolas Cage and Joel Kinnaman will soon be sharing the screen in Sympathy For The Devil, a ‘gritty psychological thriller’ that has already entered production. The film is being helmed by Yuval Adler, who also directed Kinnaman in 2020’s The Secrets We Keep. The RoboCop star can be a physical, brooding presence on screen but even he may have met his match in the form of Cage, the very epitome of a larger-than-life screen figure.
The film’s story focuses on ‘The Driver’ (Kinnaman) as he finds himself in a high-stakes game of cat and mouse after being forced to drive a mysterious man known as ‘The Passenger’ (Cage). If you ask us, it sounds a bit like a remake of 2004’s Collateral with Cage playing the Tom Cruise part and frankly, we’d take that hands down. However unique and ‘gritty’ the plot may or may not be, we are looking forward to seeing the chemistry between Cage and Kinnaman.
Cage’s career has veered back towards the mainstream of late, with this year’s The Unbearable Weight Of Massive Talent and the upcoming Renfield pitching him back into multiplexes after a long stretch making indie, arthouse and straight-to-DVD projects. Where Sympathy For The Devil ends up is yet to be determined as the project has been packaged and is due to be sold at the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival. We’ll let you know more on this one as we hear it.
