The breakout Obsession star Michael Johnston might be joining Brendan Fraser in The Mummy 4. More on that below.

Curry Barker’s Obsession has become perhaps the most talked about film of 2026. The delightfully creepy horror film gets only better with rewatches and has opened all the doors for its young stars. There’s plenty of Oscar buzz around Inde Navarrette’s disturbing performance as Nikki, but Bear himself, aka Michael Johnston is also eyeing up something big.

Variety reports that Johnston is currently in talks to join The Mummy 4. Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, aka Radio Silence, are directing the new instalment in the franchise and it’s set to hit cinemas 15th October 2027. David Coggeshall has penned the script.

Brendan Fraser will return as adventurer Rick O’Connell, Rachel Weisz will reprise her role as Evelyn O’Connell and John Hannah will also appear as Evelyn brother Jonathan. There’s no word on who Johnston might play at this point, but I’m sure clarity on that will follow.

The Mummy 4 will bring the popular early-noughties’ franchise back from the dead. 1999’s The Mummy was a major hit and made Brendan Fraser into a huge Hollywood star. Its sequel, 2001’s The Mummy Returns, was an equally big success, but the third instalment, Tomb Of The Dragon Emperor from 2008, is best left forgotten. It didn’t do well at the time and it certainly hasn’t aged well.

The Mummy 4, which is still pending an official title, will be the first time Weisz is reprising her role since the second film, so there’s plenty to get excited here.

Johnston previously made a name for himself in the TV show Teen Wolf and while the show was very popular, Obsession is what really put him on the map. The Mummy 4 could mark a big breakthrough for the young actor into the big Hollywood blockbusters, but that remains to be seen.

The Mummy 4 will hit cinemas 15th October 2027. We’ll bring you more news on it as we hear them.
