Following their recent collaboration in Wolfs, George Clooney and Brad Pitt are circling Ocean’s 14 – with Edward Berger as director.
While George Clooney and Brad Pitt have recently been bestowing their movie star grins on all and sundry at the Venice Film Festival as they attended the premiere of their new film, Wolfs, we imagine that in private they’re slightly less happy. As we’ve seen streaming platforms do in the past, Apple recently decided to yank the duo’s new film from its planned theatrical release and instead refashion it as a largely streaming-only event.
Stars of their profile tend like to see their films in cinemas – especially people like Clooney and Pitt, whose stardom was built in that 90s mould of being visible through high-profile releases rather than amassing huge social media profiles. Although they’ve reportedly been paid well for their services, Wolfs has no doubt turned out to be a disappointment for them in that regard, even if they have agreed to do a sequel.
Still, fear not, because it looks like Clooney and Pitt are hatching plans for a joint return to the big screen via another Ocean’s film. According to Deadline, the duo are working on Ocean’s 14, a fourth mainline entry in the star-laden heist series that helped to propel their star power at the turn of the century.
One staple of the series who isn’t expected to return is director Steven Soderbergh. The filmmaker helmed the previous three films but reportedly won’t be back for this planned fourth film. Clooney did announce last year that the project had a strong script, but Deadline is claiming that the project is now picking up some real momentum.
This project is different from the untitled Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling project which is said to be an Ocean’s prequel set in the 1960s. Matt Damon and Casey Affleck are expected to return along with the others from the original trilogy’s ensemble.
We even have an idea as to who the film’s director might be.
The outlet is stating that the project is Edward Berger’s, should he plump for it. The All Quiet On The Western Front filmmaker is in demand at the moment though, with rumours suggesting that EON wants him to direct the next 007 film. Berger’s latest is The Conclave, a papal drama that beefs up its dramatic Vatican-set happenings with the kind of starry ensemble to match an Ocean’s film. It’s coming to cinemas in November.
As for Ocean’s 14, we’ll bring you more on this one as we hear it. If it happens, and Berger takes it on? You can cross him off the James Bond list…
