The Kevin Costner-directed western Open Range comes to Blu-ray in the UK for the first time this August: details here.

Here’s one for fellow Kevin Costner aficionados. I’ve long argued that the best of the three films Costner has directed to date has been the western Open Range, that he made in 2003. As much as I like Dances With Wolves, it’s Open Range that I keep coming back to, a relatively modestly-budgeted film in which he starred opposite Robert Duvall.

It’s the last film that Costner has directed, at least to date, and it’s also a movie that’s never had a UK Blu-ray release, in spite of a strong disc being available in Germany.

However, there was a nice surprise awaiting me when I checked out the August upcoming disc release in the UK, as 101 Films has picked up the rights to a long-overdue Open Range release. It’s heading to Blu-ray over here on August 9th, although from the listing there doesn’t appear to be any extra features coming along with it. But for the minute, the fact that the film is getting a fresh physical media release is good news.

You can find the listing and order yourself a copy here. And if you’ve not had the pleasure, it’s a real treat of a movie…
