Strange Way of Life is being touted as Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodovar’s answer to Brokeback Mountain.  Managing to acquire the services of both Ethan Hawke and Pedro Pascal for a short film might be a tall order for most filmmakers, but not if you’re the legendary Spanish director Pedro Almodovar. Both actors have signed up to feature in Almodovar’s new half-hour western short film, Strange Way Of Life.  The premise is a simple one: ‘The story begins with a man, Silva, riding on a horse across a desert to Bitter Creek. He has come to visit Sheriff Jake with whom he worked as a hired gun 25 years earlier. Silva comes with the pre-text of re-encountering his old friend, but after a celebratory night, Jake tells him that the real reason for his visit isn’t memories of their old friendship.’ The film will shoot in Tabernas in Almería, southern Spain, whilst some scenes will be captured in the settlement that Sergio Leone built 50 years ago to shoot his spaghetti Western Dollars trilogy that starred Clint Eastwood. Hawke recently appeared in the Disney+ Marvel Moon Knight series whilst Pascal has recently been working on a TV adaptation of The Last Of Us, the popular PlayStation franchise. Almodovar usually makes Spanish-films but Strange Way Of Life will be an English language film. Following the short, the director will be making his first English-language feature film, A Manual For Cleaning Women which will star Cate Blanchett.
