Amazon and Netflix are said to be battling it out to land Crime 101, which will be directed by Bart Layton – Pedro Pascal and Chris Hemsworth may star in it.

News on new movies is obviously pretty light at the moment as a result of the ongoing strike action being undertaken by both actors and writers. Whilst that means that we’ll likely get a glut of announcements when the strikes finally end, news in the meantime is pretty thin. However, UK production companies are still free to strike deals, which is why we’re hearing that the British company Working Title is close to securing a deal that will bring Pedro Pascal and Chris Hemsworth together in a Heat-style face off between cop and criminal.

Crime 101 is set to be directed by American Animals’ Bart Layton and is based on a novella by Don Winslow. Here’s the synopsis: ‘High level jewel thieves are taking place up and down the Pacific Coast and police have linked the thefts to the Colombian cartels. Detective Lou Lubesnick has other ideas, and he zeroes in on one perp, a thief looking for a final score.’

Both Amazon and Netflix are said to be interested in backing the project, according to DeadlineNo deal has yet been struck with a studio, which is likely why we’re hearing about the project as it isn’t yet affiliated with one of the parties involved in the ongoing strike action. Amazon is said to be in the lead to sign the project – which hopefully means it might get a cinema release through the studio’s MGM label, but who knows. We’ll bring you more updates on Crime 101 as we hear them.
