Zack Snyder hasn’t closed the door on more Rebel Moon films, as he finishes off a new SWAT movie for Netflix. More here.
After he came off his adventures with Warner Bros and DC, filmmaker Zack Snyder found a new home at Netflix, and spent the streamer’s money on a couple of projects. There was 2021’s Army Of The Dead, and then his mega-money science fiction features Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child Of Fire and Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver.
The Rebel Moon films weren’t massively well received, and while there was talk of doing further features, Snyder instead has diverted his energies towards a different film for Netflix. But as he launches a new videogame in the Rebel Moon universe called Blood Line, Snyder has been chatting to Variety about where things go from here.
“I got sidetracked into this – not sidetracked, it’s all uptown problems, as they say – for Netflix, I’m working on an LAPD SWAT movie,” he says of his latest film. The film in question doesn’t yet have a title, but isn’t set in outer space.
However, he does suggest that he’s not let Rebel Moon – widely seen as his attempt to do his own Star Wars-style universe – out of his head. And that he’s not shutting off the idea of future films. He talks of how doing the two movies so far was “very exhausting” and that it “was nice to have a bit of a break from it.”

But also he teases that once he’s done with his SWAT film, he’s planning to see “where we are with everything.”
And pressed on whether there are more tales in the Rebel Moon world to tell? “There’s tons of stories. So, I mean, I think it’s literally, it’s endless. But, again, like I say, I’m waiting to see how we want to and in what way we would move forward, if at all.”
Whether Netflix is inclined to stump up for a further adventure is a key variable here, of course. The performance of the Rebel Moon films was not said to be stellar, and the streamer keeps making noises about being more frugal with its budgets.
Still, if Snyder’s SWAT film goes well, that might loosen some purse strings. But for the minute, if you want more Rebel Moon, the Blood Line game is your best bet.
