Tom Hanks, Robert Zemeckis, Eric Roth and Robin Wright are all coming back together for Here ā€“ and itā€™s heading to the UK in January 2025.

A reunion of director Robert Zemeckis and star Tom Hanks would have ignited something of a scramble some ten years ago. They’d previously made Forrest Gump and The Polar Express before, although their most recent collaboration – Pinocchio – was comfortably dwarfed by Guillermo del Toro coming in with his own version.

However, Here looks fascinating. In a podcast episode earlier in the year, writer Eric Roth dropped some hints about the movie. It was funded independently, and only after it was put to market did Sony Pictures pick it up. Even then, Sony grabbed the US distribution, and the UK release was in limbo.

But not anymore. Last week it was revealed that Amazon MGM had acquired the UK distribution rights, and was looking to give the film a cinema release too via MetFilm. This is moving quite quickly now as well, with a release date for the UK of 17th January 2025. Granted, that’s several months after its US bow, but at least it’s getting a big screen outing.

We don’t yet have a UK trailer for the movie, but we know that it co-stars Kelly Reilly, Michelle Dockery, Robin Wright, Ophelia Lovibond, Paul Bettany and more.

For the moment, we’ll leave you with the synopsis…

From the reunited director, writer, and stars of Forrest Gump (1994), Here is an original film about multiple families and a special place they inhabit. The story travels through generations, capturing the human experience in its purest form. Directed by Robert Zemeckis, written by Eric Roth and Zemeckis and told much in the style of the acclaimed graphic novel by Richard McGuire on which it is based, Tom Hanks and Robin Wright star in tale of love, loss, laughter and life, all of which happen right Here.
