Halloween 2026 will mark the arrival of Jordan Peele’s next film for Universal, a film which is currently being kept firmly under wraps.
We’ve been wondering for a while when Jordan Peele’s next film for Universal would get up and running – and happily, there’s finally some news to report on that front.
When the project was delayed at the back end of last year, it didn’t seem too out of place given that 2023 was a time of delays due to months of Hollywood strikes disrupting schedules and throwing film production out of whack.
But then things stayed quiet for half a year and we were beginning to wonder if all was well with Peele’s next film. With Universal now announcing that the project will release just in time for Halloween 2026, it looks like our doubts were unfounded. The project was previously dated for 25th December 2024, so the delay is quite a lengthy one but if it means that cinema gets to keep one of its most ideas-rich directors working on original films on a big canvas, fair enough.
That latter part is important given the current movie landscape. It was revealed recently that Peele had taken a meeting with Marvel Studios where he was believed to have had a chat about taking on stewardship of the MCU’s first X-Men movie. Then there’s Peele’s contemporaries: similarly lauded filmmakers of his generation have either already spent time in the world of franchises (such as Greta Gerwig or Ryan Coogler) or are finding themselves working with slimmer budgets, as we’re seeing with Damian Chazelle’s follow-up to Babylon which is set to be a ‘prison movie’.
Jordan Peele seems to have found a sweet spot when it comes to working with decent-sized budgets while producing original films that are both artistic yet crowd-pleasing. It’s that tricky combination that makes him such a prize asset to Universal, and given that his next project is going to arrive on the eve of Halloween in 2026 (per The Hollywood Reporter), we’re going to assume he’s returning to the horror genre once more.
Peele’s films are always shrouded in secrecy and this one is no different, so don’t expect to hear much more in the months to come. As always though, when we do hear more you can be sure we’ll let you know.
