Adult Swim’s Rick And Morty might finally be getting a movie – and it looks as though a series veteran might be directing. More on that below.
A Rick And Morty movie has been bubbling under the surface for quite some time now. Adult Swim’s animated show is returning for season nine this week and is set to continue until at least season 12, but a movie is now officially on the way.
The Hollywood Reporter has the scoop that Warner Bros. is now in early development of a Rick And Morty movie and are eyeing Jacob Hair, a long-time director of the show, to helm the movie.
There are no plot details to share yet, but we can expect there to be plenty of chaos as our favourite mad scientist and his grandson make the leap onto the big screen.
Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon created the series which premiered in 2013. Roiland voiced both characters, but Adult Swim cut all ties with him after he faced felony charges of domestic abuse. The charges were later dismissed.
Harmon has confirmed that they have been trying to get a movie off the ground for quite some time now.
“My philosophy would be to just take a Rick and Morty adventure, and spend a bunch of extra money on it and make it 90 minutes long,” Harmon told THR in 202 . “Not to try to earn its feature status by virtue of canonical dramatic tone shifts or anything like that, but rather to just make it a super badass episode of Rick and Morty.”
Zach Snyder, who had a cameo in the series, is also a fan and offered to help.
“He was totally a super fan and was just like, ‘Is there any way I can help get that movie started by using my Snyder-ness?’”
The movie is still in early development, but we’ll keep you posted on when we might see it on the big screen.
