Jodie Comer, the Emmy-winning star of Killing Eve, joins Matt Damon and Ben Affleck in Scott’s slated 14th century drama.
Fresh from winning an Emmy for her standout performance in Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s Killing Eve, Jodie Comer has now been cast in Ridley Scott’s planned historical drama, The Last Duel, according to Dark Horizons.
The film, which has not yet been officially confirmed, also features Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. The duo, along with Nicole Holofcener who penned Can You Ever Forgive Me?,are also writing the screenplay in what will be their first screenplay collaboration since they shared the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for Good Will Hunting.
Comer, who is also set to appear alongside Ryan Reynolds and Taika Waititi in Shawn Levy’s upcoming Free Guy, will play a woman caught in the middle of a conflict between two men which leads to the titular duel, reportedly being the last legally sanctioned one in France.
Scott himself is no stranger to films about duels, with his movie The Duellists marking his feature debut as a director and paving the way for him to make his name with 1979’s Alien. Should The Last Duel prove to be a money-spinner, it may well once again lead Scott back to the Alien franchise to make the Alien: Covenant sequel he has publicly announced plans for.
The film awaits the greenlight from the now Disney-owned Fox. We’ll keep you posted as we hear more.
