Mira Sorvino confirms that she and Lisa Kudrow are finalising contracts for Romy And Michele’s High School Reunion 2. More here.

It was all the way back in 1997 that out of the blue, Hollywood gave us a pair of impressive high school reunion movies. First up, in the UK at least, was Grosse Pointe Blank, starring John Cusack. That had the better reviews and initial response at the time. Yet since then, it’s Romy And Michele’s High School Reunion that’s come far more to the fore.

Starring Mira Sorvino and Lisa Kudrow, and directed by David Mirkin, the original film – as discussed in an old Film Stories podcast episode here – was penned by Robin Schiff. She based it on a 1988 stage production called Ladies Room, and it was revealed a little while back that she was cooking up a Romy And Michele’s High School Reunion 2.

Both Mira Sorvino and Lisa Kudrow are set to return, and it’s Sorvino who’s given the latest update as to the state of the project.

She confirmed to Us magazine that Robin Schiff is definitely back for the new film, yet she’s also committed to the Netflix series Emily In Paris. She has to round off her work on that before she can give Romy And Michele’s High School Reunion 2 her full attention.

Still, it sounds like the paperwork is getting done. Mira Sorvino has also confirmed that “Lisa and I are wrapping up our deals as executive producers on it with the studio. We’re full force ahead”.

Pleasing news. We don’t as of yet have any indication as to the story of the film, or where we’ll find the characters of Romy and Michele. But we do suspect this is actually going to happen, and look forward to hearing more about it.

As and when more information becomes available, we shall pass it your way. We’re very efficient like that.
