Cinematographer Autumn Durald Arkapaw has revealed that shooting has begun on Ryan Coogler’s upcoming vampire movie, starring Michael B Jordan.
A 15-tog duvet of mystery swaddles the next film from Black Panther and Creed director Ryan Coogler. At present, we don’t even have a title.
That secrecy is underlined by an Instagram post from cinematographer Autumn Durald Arkapaw, who’s taken to the platform to tease that filming is underway on Coogler’s film. Arkapaw’s post – which simply reads “get ready” – is accompanied by an image of the director of photography holding up a clapper board. The film’s title – or at least its working title – has been tantalisingly obscured by a row of black hearts.
Having scrutinised this image for several minutes now, we’ve concluded that the movie’s title begins with an R. And there’s a gap in the middle, which suggests it’s two words. Is Ryan Coogler’s mystery film called… Ryan Coogler? No, probably not.
Still, while the film’s name remains obscure for now, other purported details have leaked out. It’s previously been said that it’ll be a vampire versus Ku Klux Klan film set in the ‘Jim Crow era’, which places it in the late 19th or early 20th century. Interestingly, that ornate font on Arkapaw’s clapper board has an art nouveau feel to it – an art movement that flourished between 1890 and 1910. It all lines up!
Michael B Jordan is to star, and it’s said he’s cast in two roles as twin brothers. We also heard earlier in April that Delroy Lindo and Jack O’Connell have reportedly joined the cast – the latter rumoured to be playing the villain.
Whatever the project turns out to be, both it and its director are hot enough that it sparked a bidding war last year, with Warner Bros eventually coming out victorious.
Ryan Coogler’s film – which almost certainly isn’t called Ryan Coogler – is due for release on the 7th March 2025.
