Steven Spielberg’s currently putting together the cast for his 2026 event film, The Dish. The Perfect Couple’s Eve Hewson could be about to join.
Irish actor Eve Hewson is the latest potential addition to The Dish, Steven Spielberg’s secretive project due out in 2026. Most recently seen in Netflix miniseries The Perfect Couple, Hewson is said to be in “early talks” to appear in Spielberg’s film according to a report at Deadline.
Hewson therefore joins Emily Blunt, Colin Firth and Josh O’Connor on the short list of actors who are said to be in the running to join Spielberg’s first movie since his 2022 drama, The Fabelmans.
Previously billed as a “new original event film,” The Dish’s title was revealed – perhaps inadvertently – during a July IMAX presentation; the name popped up on a PowerPoint slide, sandwiched between the next Avengers film and The Mandalorian And Grogu. Universal Pictures hasn’t confirmed that title as yet, but it’s one several outlets (including IMDb) are sticking with for now.
Few concrete details have emerged about the film itself, other than that it’s written by David Koepp, with whom Spielberg fruitfully collaborated on such films as Jurassic Park and War Of The Worlds. That their work together has tended to be of the sci-fi variety adds weight to the rumours that Spielberg and Koepp are making some sort of UFO-based sci-fi flick, thus returning to a subject close to the former filmmaker’s heart.
Spielberg made the zero-budget sci-fi film Firelight while he was still a teenager in 1964; much of it has since been lost, but its alien visitation theme formed the basis for 1977’s Close Encounters Of The Third Kind – his hugely successful follow-up to Jaws.
Eve Hewson’s career to date has taken in both TV and film, including Steven Soderbergh’s hit medical drama The Knick and an upcoming, currently untitled collaboration with Noah Baumbach. Hewson also worked with Spielberg before in 2015’s acclaimed Cold War thriller Bridge Of Spies, so it’s quite possible she’ll land a role in whatever the director’s making now.
The Dish is due for release on the 16th May 2026, so no doubt we’ll be hearing more from the production in due course.
