The new Ocean’s film will reunite Barbie co-stars Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie, it’s been revealed.

We’ve known for a couple of months that after she’s done with the Barbie movie that’s currently shooting, Margot Robbie has signed up to star in a prequel movie to Ocean’s 11 and perhaps, subsequent sequels too. However, reports emerged over the weekend to suggest that her Barbie co-star and action stalwart, Ryan Gosling. may also be joining her in what is likely to be an all-star ensemble.

Jay Roach, who directed Robbie in Bombshell has been tapped to helm the production whilst Gosling is reportedly in negotiations to feature. Should the actor sign on the dotted line, an Ocean’s film and the expected sequel to Netflix’s The Gray Man will certainly keep him busy for the next couple of years although we do wonder what is happening with the long-gestating adaptation of The Wolfman that he is set to star in.

Leigh Whannell, helmer of The Invisible Man left the project, seemingly so Gosling could bring in regular collaborator Derek Cianfrance but the Universal monsters werewolf movie seems to moving awfully slowly, if it is even moving at all. Gosling’s latest comment on that project some weeks ago went along the lines of “I hope we get to do it’ so it still seems to be at the embryonic stages despite having been in development for what feels like forever.

According to previous reports, the Ocean’s prequel will be mostly placed in Europe and will be set decades before George Clooney’s Danny Ocean and his pals set about engaging in outlandish heists and hi jinks. Little else is known about the project at this point, apart from a slated production window that is reportedly set to begin in spring of next year. With the prequel being set some time before the mainline franchise, we expect that some of the key players from those films will be recast and return as younger versions. That may even extend to characters from the 2018 all-female spin-off, Ocean’s Eight.

We’ll bring you more on this one as we hear it. As with most Ocean’s films it will be fun to see who makes up the cast and you can be sure that when we hear, you’ll be the first to know.
