Scott Pilgrim vs The World finally makes its long-awaited comeback to the world of download availability on January 14, 2021, Ubisoft has confirmed.
The beat-’em-up tie-in to the comic and movie arrives with the decidedly too-long title of Scott Pilgrim vs The World: The Game – Complete Edition on PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and Stadia, with PS5 and Xbox Series S/X backwards compatibility confirmed just so those on the bleeding edge of console tech don’t lose out on a decade-old game’s re-release.
Scott Pilgrim vs The World initially launched back in 2010 on PS3 and Xbox 360. An early scuffle in the wider rebirth of the scrolling beat-’em-up genre, it was well received at the time and earned itself a bunch of fans beyond those obsessed with the written and cinematic forms.
By 2014, however, the game was delisted from digital storefronts and was no longer available for purchase. Licensing was the likely culprit, and it took until earlier in 2020 for the game to make an appearance again, announced in its new Complete Edition form.
Anyway, instead of ranting about the ills of digital ownership and how you never actually truly own something you buy in the non-physical realm and how this was a key example of what can go wrong with it all, I’ll just post the trailer:
